Texas Voice for Health Reform Speaks to Rio Grande Valley Community Organizers
Over the summer Texas Voice for Health Reform travelled around Texas to provide educational presentations to and to solicit feedback from community groups around the state about what their major questions and concerns are about national health reform.
In July we went to the Texas Rio Grande Valley to speak with Valley Interfaith, a local affiliate of IAF. While Texas has the nation's highest rates of uninsured, in the Rio Grande Valley the health care crisis is especially acute. For example, according to the Border KIDS COUNT project, 24.0%-33.3% of children living in counties in the Valley are projected to be uninsured by 2010 and this region has fewer doctors to serve children and families than the rest of the state of Texas, despite the fact that the child population in this area is skyrocketing.
We shared our perspective on the important aspects of national health reform with Valley Interfaith through a Power Point presentation (in English and Spanish) and other educational materials like Texas Voice for Health Reform Principles, What's In It for Texas?, Texans at Everyone Income Win with Health Reform, and Texas Small Businesses are Big Winners in Health Reform.
