VoteHealthcare.org Purple Bus Comes to Austin

In March Texas Voice for Health Reform worked with our partners to host a press conference with the VoteHealthcare.org Purple Bus Tour.  The VoteHealthcare.org Purple Bus travels around the country to spread the word about our failing health care system and the urgent need for reform. 

We conducted the press conference at the People's Community Clinic, the oldest free clinic in Austin, which provides critical healthcare services to those who do not have access to health insurance.  Representatives from local advocacy groups including the Center for Public Priorities and Children's Defense Fund Texas spoke to members of the press about what health reform must include in order to benefit Texas families. 

We also used the opportunity to distribute affordability surveys, developed by PICO, to press conference attendees and clinic patients.  The results of this survey help us understand what Texas consumers feel they can afford to pay for their health care.
