South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center

Project Director: Susan Berkowitz, South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center

Consumer Voices for Coverage Phase II is an extension of the Consumer Voices for Coverage national program funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This new program provides resources to support local and state-based organizations that are well positioned to educate policy-makers and the public about the importance of reforming our health care system. This project  works with numerous and diverse interest groups to educate advocates, faith leaders, health care providers, and business interests about the unique opportunities to encourage federal policies that support South Carolina’s growing uninsured population. The project uses a combined strategy of education and outreach with coalition partners while coordinating a strong media campaign to provide information for advocates and policy leaders of the state.

As part of the CVC Phase II project, South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center, in partnership with South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce, AARP- South Carolina, and South Carolina Fair Share, developed their new website to provide coordination and outreach in South Carolina on national health reform. In addition, South Carolina Appleseed coordinated three town hall meetings with Congressmen Spratt and Clyburn to provide a forum to inform the public and to allow real people to tell their stories of being underinsured and uninsured.
