Colorado Voices for Coverage

Project Director: Denise de Percin

The Colorado Voices for Coverage project seeks to organize around major health reforms at the state and national level to remove barriers that block consumers from adequate health care.  The project will increase the understanding, commitment, and capacity of a broad group of stakeholders to bring under-represented perspectives into health care policy discussions, to connect diverse constituencies, and to build a sustainable state-wide advocacy network required to implement meaningful health reform.

The Colorado Consumer Health Initiative (CCHI) is leading the statewide collaboration.  CCHI is a statewide, unified membership organization comprised of organizational and individual health care consumer advocates. CCHI acts as a unified representative of its members and partners at the legislature and in the community to shape effective health care policy to ensure barrier-free access to quality health care for all Coloradans.

The Colorado Voices for Coverage coalition is supported by a leadership team of organizations, including:

In the first two years of the project, Colorado CVC has  helped to enact the following measures:

  • The Health Care Affordability Act which leveraged state dollars, through a hospital provider fee, to draw down additional federal funds to provide coverage to more than 100,000 uninsured Coloradans.
  • Repeal of Arveschoug-Bird, a restrictive revenue measure
  • Immigrant Children Health Insurance Authorization, allowing coverage within CHIP
